A windfarm is being opposed by County Durham residents who fear their peaceful country lives will be shattered by the noise pollution it could create, according to reports.

Households in Hawthorn have inundated the planning department at Easington council with letters of opposition to the proposals, the Sunderland Echo claims.

The report says objectors claim the conservation area would be ruined by Sea and Land Power and Energy's plans, while Seaham town and Murton parish councils fear the structure could "jeopardise" an already-approved £300 million film studio nearby.

"[Protesters] also say they could be affected by the light flicker the blades could cause and noise pollution, with campaigners claiming the turbines could generate the same amount of sound as a jet engine," it added.

Meanwhile, it was reported by the East Anglian Daily Times last week that plans to build a caravan park are being opposed by a Suffolk village's residents over fears of the noise pollution it could create.
