A 1,500 acre site near Selby is the planned location for a new environmental home development.

Blueprints for the 15,000-home 'town', known as Willow Green, are currently being scrutinised by the government.

Developers GMI Property Company intends to phase in the building, with 6,000 eco homes constructed in the first phase and the further 9,000 in a later one, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

A dozen schools and various recreation and leisure facilities are on the plans, as well as business areas.

The development will sit between the villages of Eggborough and Kellington and will retain 'green wedges' at its borders.

Selby MP John Grogan told the newspaper: "With careful planning I think the village character of Eggborough, Kellington and Whitley Bridge can be preserved just as, for example, Heslington has retained its identity even though it is adjacent to York University."

However council leader Mark Crane has expressed reservations about the plans as they stand so far, according to The Press.
