Spring cleaning tips
Are you wanting to give your home a deep clean? It's the time of year that many of us start to pay more attention to how our home's look and want to dust away those cobwebs. You can have your home looking beautiful again with a few of our expert tips to help you clean and de-clutter all over the house.
De-clutter your whole house
To create more space and a fresh and positive environment you want to get rid of the clutter that is making your home look messy and unorganised. A great rule to follow is to get rid of any items if you have not used them in the last year. People often keep hold of things they never have any intention of using in the thought that it will one day come in handy; the reality is if you've not used something in the last year it's most likely that you never will. Obviously make expectations for seasonal items and clothing but its best to be ruthless when de-cluttering your home. You can make it easier for yourself by organising your items into separate piles such as 'keep', 'donate, 'recycle' and 'throw away'.
Don't think out of sight out of mind
When doing a regular clean of your home it's easy to forget about those hard to reach places that you can't really see. But over time you can expect a lot of grease, dirt and dust to build up at the top of your cabinets, fridge and other areas. These areas need to be thoroughly cleaned and if you can reach, it is useful to clean them regularly. The same care is needed for ceiling fixtures and lights as they collect a lot of dust over time. Simply using the hose of a vacuum regularly to collect the dust will help your whole house to feel fresher and cleaner.
Deep clean your carpets
You might not think so but your carpet can actually be one of the dirtiest parts of your home. When cleaning areas such as bedrooms and dining rooms most people don't move large furniture out of the way and instead just clean around it. This means that the carpet underneath beds and sofas will never get cleaned and it will collect dust, hair and other dirt. A deep clean of your entire carpet will help to keep your home looking and smelling fresh; you can buy high quality cleaning solutions in most shops or if your carpet is particularly unclean it may be best to hire a professional.
Clean your fridge coils
When doing a deep clean you'll want to pay attention to your oven and fridge too. To make sure that your fridge is spotless you should clean the condenser coil which can usually be found behind the toe grille. Use a bottle brush with large handle to clean in and around the area then use the vacuum hose to remove any lint or dust which can cause the fridge to overheat and break. It sounds a little unusual but using a vacuum hose to clean your fridge will be much more effective at picking up dust than a regular cloth.
Don't forget your walls and woodwork
People often forget about their walls when they clean their home but even if they don't look like they need much of a clean its useful to wash them every once in a while, as dirt can cling to vertical surfaces. It's really easy to clean walls and woodwork you can simply use a sponge, warm water and washing up liquid to wash each surface in sections. Have a separate bucket of water so that you can clean and rise the sponge; make sure the surfaces don't get too wet, once you're finish dry the walls and woodwork with a clean cloth.
