Lubricating the window mechanism
Generally this is caused by a stiff mechanism that simply requires some lubrication. As uPVC can be sensitive to some chemicals we would suggest the use of a silicon based lubrication as to avoid any damage to the exterior window. While WD-40 can be used it should be used sparingly and in a controlled manner. Lubrication should be conducted at least once a year to ensure this issue does not happen again.
Separating the gasket from the frame
This step applies to windows that are difficult to open or stuck. When opened for too long the gasket can become soft and attach to the frame. If this happens then do not force the window open as this can snap the gasket and result in an additional cost in getting it replaced and installed. What you should do is use a bank card or flat blunt knife to separate the frame from the gasket.
Condensation on the window
Condensation on the window is commonly caused by a contrast in temperature on each side of the glass, similar to that of a plane window. Condensation on the inside face of the glass can be removed by reducing the overall level of moisture within your home. However, if condensation is forming inside of the glazing then this suggests that the seal has been compromised. If this has happened the window should be resealed and replaced as it will not function at an optimum capacity.
My uPVC window frames have turned yellow
Yellowing of the uPVC or PVCu can be caused by multiple reasons, however the most common is exposure to UV radiation over time. During summer months the frames will experience a greater amount of this radiation and eventually begin to yellow. There isn’t much that can be done to prevent this from happening, however high-quality virgin uPVC greatly reduces the likelihood of this happening which is what we use on all external faces of Safestyle’s uPVC windows and doors..

If you're noticing that it is difficult to open and close your windows and that you have to use excessive force to do so it suggests that there may be an issue with the window hinge. Hinges tend to cause most window problems as dirt and grit can build up on them over time. It may be that your window hinges have just become a little stiff and will need some lubrication so that they can move more smoothly.
Apply an appropriate substance directly onto the hinges and your windows should start opening and closing properly straight away. We recommend that you lubricate all of the windows moving parts at least once a year to reduce wear and tear and prevent damage. If the window is still not operating properly after lubrication then it could mean that a mechanism is failing and it might need to be replaced. Another reason why your windows may not be opening and closing properly could be that the gasket is stuck to the frame. If the window has been left open for long periods of time during hot weather, then it can cause the weather gasket to slightly soften. In some cases, this causes the gasket and the window frame to stick together meaning that the window is difficult to open. Do not try to force the window open as this can cause the gasket to tear and it will need to be replaced. You can fix the problem quite easily and without causing damage by using a bank card or a flat blunt knife to separate the frame from the gasket.

High quality and well insulated windows will help to reduce the likelihood of condensation forming but the issue is often to do with factors inside the home and not necessarily a fault with your windows. The best thing you can do to reduce condensation gathering on the inside facing pane of glass is to increase ventilation and reduce moisture within your home.
The only time that the appearance of condensation suggests a fault with your windows is if it is forming between the two panes of glass. This suggests that the seal on your double-glazing unit has failed, and the windows will not be performing at an optimum level. The unit will need to be replaced and resealed to prevent any further damage. One of the main reasons that uPVC is such a popular choice for window frames is because it is extremely durable and requires very little maintenance. Even though you will not need to clean your window frames regularly we do advise that you perform some general maintenance from time to time in order to keep them in their best conditions. It's best to get in the habit of cleaning your frames with some soapy water and a sponge at least twice a year after they have been installed. You can also apply lubrication oil to the moving parts and hinges at least once a year to prevent any damage.
