How to spruce up your home in time for spring

Brighter mornings and longer evenings are upon us, it can only mean one thing: spring is just around the corner. With the news of lockdown restrictions slowly starting to ease over the coming weeks, there has never been a better time to spruce up the space you’ve been cooped up in for almost a year. From bedroom to patio, here is our guide to getting your home spring ready.

Thoroughly clean your mattress. Washing bedsheets is part of the weekly routine, but it can be easy to forget the mattress itself. Vacuum the surface of the mattress to remove any dirt or debris. Sprinkle over baking soda and leave for up to 24 hours to get a real deep clean.

Freshen up your headboard. A statement headboard can really transform your bedroom, especially when kept in good condition. The good news is that maintenance is easy going – a simple spritz of fabric spray and a weekly vacuum will keep your headboard dirt and dust free.

Get your towels smelling fresh. Fluffy towels can be a great way to impress guests, but it is important to keep them fresh, soft and bright. Use a eucalyptus-based detergent for added fibre protection over silicone-based fabric softeners, as these can reduce the towel’s ability to absorb.

Tackle pesky limescale. Natural remedies work as a great alternative to the more common descaling products found in supermarkets. One great tip for removing limescale from your showerhead is to unscrew and leave it in a bowl of white vinegar overnight, before rinsing the following day. The results will leave your showerhead shining and you smiling.

spring cleaning tips for your living space

Living space

Dust off your blinds. Regular cleaning of your blinds should be carried out to remove any dust or germs that may linger on the surfaces. This can be as simple as a quick, soft dust and vacuum every month or so.

Wash your windows. Windows should be cleaned on both sides a few times a year, and Spring provides us with a great chance to do so. This can be as simple as opening up the window and taking an old paint brush to loosen any dirt, dust and cobwebs that might be stuck in the frame. Then use the hose of your vacuum cleaner to get rid of any debris. For uPVC window frames, marks and stains should come off with ease. You can read our full guide on how to clean and care for your uPVC windows here.

Refresh your radiators. They can be seen as a bit of a nuisance when it comes to cleaning, but they don’t have to be. Using a hairdryer is an efficient way to get dust out of the back of a radiator. And, as Spring arrives, have you considered switching to electric heating? As well as being easier to maintain, they’re more environmentally friendly, efficient and could save you money on your energy bills.
